Application process:
You must apply for a police clearance certificate along with the specified documents.
Documents required:
One fully completed police Clearance Certificate application form.
Other compulsory documents:
- All applications must be submitted with copies of the Passport and National Identity Card (NIC).
- If the applicant is above 16 years of age and has resided in Sri Lanka after the age of 16, submission of an NIC copy is mandatory.
- If an NIC copy is not submitted, the Police Clearance Certificate will be issued only up to the applicant’s age of 16 years.
Name Discrepancy (NIC and Passport):
- If the applicant requires the Police Clearance Certificate to be issued as per the passport name, and there a difference in the name in the NIC and the Passport, an affidavit confirming that both names belong to the same person must be submitted. In the absence of a valid affidavit, the certificate will be issued using the details provided in the NIC.
Applicant’s Contact Details:
- All overseas applicants are requested to clearly mention their contact details, including;
- WhatsApp number
- Email address
- If the applicant has a relative in Sri Lanka, the relative’s contact details should also be clearly mentioned in the application.

Important Notes:
- Please note that pre-paid self-addressed envelopes and/or shipping labels are not accepted.
- Please ensure you add the costs of “returning documents” to the consular service fee(s).
- Your original documents will be returned by a secure courier.
- The submission of forged documents and making false declarations relating to citizenship is a punishable offence. In such circumstances, consular fees will not be refunded.
- Incomplete applications will be rejected.
