AMBASSADOR OF SRI LANKA DISCUSSES POST-CONFLICT ISSUES WITH US DEFENSE OFFICIALS


Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya with Robert M. Scher, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South & Southeast Asia

Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya last week met with Robert M. Scher, the newly appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South & Southeast Asia at the US Department of Defense.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Scher congratulated the Government of Sri Lanka for defeating the LTTE and for eliminating terrorism from the country. Ambassador Wickramasuriya thanked the United States for providing support, especially in terms of curbing the funding and logistical network in the effort to eliminate the LTTE.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Scher said that the US Department of Defense would continue to work with Sri Lanka on bilateral and regional issues. He was accompanied in the meeting by Dr. A. Latiff and Mr. Jonathan Daniel of the US Department of Defense. Ambassador Wickramasuriya was accompanied by Maj. Gen. Samantha Sooriyabandara, Defence Attache, and Mr. Aminda Rodrigo, Second Secretary of this Mission.
