AMBASSADOR JALIYA WICKRAMASURIYA MEETS DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN NEGROPONTE

Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya met with Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and presented him with a copy of his Credentials that accredited him as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America on 18th July 2008.

During the meeting with Deputy Secretary of State, issues of mutual interests to the United States of America and Sri Lanka such as US-Sri Lanka bilateral relations, current situation in Sri Lanka and ‘re-awakening of the East’ were discussed.

Ambassador Wickramasuriya expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of the United States Government to Sri Lanka since the inception of diplomatic ties in 1948. He also spoke warmly of the friendly, cordial and mutually beneficial relationship that the U.S. and Sri Lanka share and looks forward to strengthening these historical ties.
