DEFENCE SECRETARY IN WASHINGTON DC FOR BILATERAL CONSULTATIONS

Secretary, Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa paid an official visit to Washington DC on 27 - 28 June 2006 for consultations with the U.S. administration.

During his stay in Washington, Secretary Rajapaksa met with the U.S. Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns, the U.S. Under-Secretary of Defence Eric S. Edelman and the Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Edmund Giambastiani.

Secretary Rajapaksa also attended a pansakula ceremony held at the Wheaton Buddhist Vihara for the late Major General Parami Kulatunga, who was assassinated by the LTTE and whose funeral was held on Wednesday, 28 June 2006 in Colombo. He also visited and received blessings at the Washington D.C. Buddhist Vihara.
