The famed Sri Lanka Cricket Team will take part in a gala dinner with cricket fans during their match play in Florida May 22, 2010.

The non-profit Sri Lanka Development Foundation will host the gala dinner with the cricket team at the elegant Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel.

The Sri Lankan side and the national team of New Zealand will play three matches May 20-23 at Broward County’s cricket stadium in nearby Lauderhill, Fla. It is the first time that two ICC teams have played in the United States.

Match tickets for May 22 and May 23rd are included free with each dinner ticket.

Dinner tickets can be purchased for $125 and are tax deductible. The free match tickets are a $62 value. They are for P1 covered grandstand seating.

Proceeds from the dinner will go toward the construction of a world-class cricket grounds in Northern Sri Lanka.

“This dinner is a wonderful opportunity for people to meet some of the best cricketers in the world and to support the re-development of Northern Sri Lanka,” Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the U.S. said. “We expect a strong turnout for the dinner and for a good showing over a weekend of first class cricket.”

Those attending the dinner will have a chance to meet and have their picture taken with Sri Lankan team members, bid on signed bats, balls, jerseys and other team memorabilia.

In addition, the dinner will feature cricket highlights and the traditional dances of world-renowned Channa Upuli dance troupe, accompanied by a renowned concert violinist specially flown from Sri Lanka for this event.
