HON. SARATH AMUNUGAMA, MINISTER OF ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT & INVESTMENT PROMOTION MEETS MR. ROBERT DOHNER, DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY AT THE US TREASURY, WASHINGTON DC ON OCTOBER 10, 2008

Hon. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion met Mr. Robert Dohner, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury at the US Treasury, Washington D.C this morning. He was accompanied by Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya.

Amongst the matters discussed at the meeting were the state of the Sri Lankan economy, including US assistance received for development projects. The Deputy Assistant Secretary explained the steps taken by the US Government to meet the current economic crisis.

Another matter discussed was the implementation of anti-money laundering laws, which are of mutual interest. The Minister of Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion assured Mr. Dohner that Sri Lanka’s Parliament has already passed the relevant legislation.

The Minister of Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion extended an invitation to officials of the US Treasury to visit Sri Lanka in order to follow up on the anti- terrorism legislation and further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
