The Embassy participated in the first annual International Children’s Festival organized by the Meridian International Center in Washington DC on May 5, 2007. Sri Lanka was among fifteen other countries which participated in the event. The other countries included Australia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Finland, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Korea, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Senegal and Turkey. As the event focused specifically on children, the Sri Lanka Promotion focused on educating the children on Sri Lanka’s culture, natural beauty, food and tea. Embassy officials also made arrangements to teach the visitors to write “Aybowan” and “Vanakkam” in Sinhalese and Tamil respectively. The event recorded about 500 visitors.
