EMBASSY INVITES FRIENDS OF SRI LANKA TO HELP DEVELOP
THE EAST
The government of Sri Lanka has launched “Negenahira
Navodaya,” an ambitious development program in the Eastern
Province, scheduled to be completed in 180 days. Positive contributions
to this initiative are expected from all Sri Lanka government
Ministries and Departments. The contribution of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka will be to provide relief services
to the civilians in the east in the following identified areas:
- Community Health Camps with the involvement of expatriates,
foreign doctors and volunteers. Health services to Internally
Displaced Persons (IDPs), schools and community centers could
also be considered
- English Language Teaching/Training programs by expatriate
foreign volunteers. This program will be consistent with Presidential
Secretary Mr. Lalith Weeratunga’s initiative to teach
English in rural schools
- Provide basic facilities like food, medicine, clothing,
bicycles, to resettled families
- Provide livelihood services to resettled families like
fishing boats, nets, agricultural equipment, agricultural
services such as drip irrigation systems, roofing sheets,
computers, school books
The Embassy wishes to invite all friends of Sri
Lanka to join in helping in this worthy effort to develop the
country’s east and to bring stability to the lives of the
resettled families.
